What Actually Differs Between ABS PVC And Aluminium

Our three casing materials share one dimensional specification: OD 70 plus minus 1.0 mm, wall 5 plus minus 0.5 mm, guide grooves 5 plus minus 0.5 mm wide and 2 plus minus 0.2 mm deep, bending 1.0 per mille or less, torsion 0.2 degrees per metre or less and intensity strength of at least 1200 N/100m. So the choice is material behaviour, not probe compatibility.

When ABS Is The Default

ABS is the usual routine choice: it handles site knocks during installation and carries a heat deflection temperature of at least 97 degrees C, which covers grouting heat.

When To Specify PVC

PVC is supplied to the identical dimensional specification, so specifying it changes nothing in your survey procedure or coupling stock.

When Aluminium Earns Its Place

Aluminium is selected where a stiffer casing is wanted in the monitored zone or where handling is rough on a long installation.

The Coupling Decision Is Separate

If the borehole annulus is tight, the flushed type uses a 73 mm coupling instead of 76 mm. That decision is independent of casing material.
