The Two Ways To Read A Hole
A traversing probe is lowered through the casing to build a full profile on each visit. An in place string stays in the hole and reports continuously over RS485.
Resolution And Accuracy Compared
The traversing probe reads plus minus 30 degrees at 0.001 degree resolution with accuracy of plus minus 0.01 degrees from 0 to 12 degrees. The in place string reads the same range at 0.0005 degree resolution with plus minus 0.005 degrees from 0 to 15 degrees.

One probe serves every hole on a site. An in place string is dedicated to one hole, so strings are placed where an alarm threshold has to be watched continuously.
