The two words get used interchangeably and they should not be. The difference decides who owns the design, who carries the tooling cost and how fast you launch.
In an OEM arrangement the design is settled before production starts. You either bring a specification or select a running model, and the factory's job is to build it correctly at volume to a fixed bill of materials. Branding, packaging and firmware artwork are applied, but the device architecture does not change.
In an ODM arrangement you start from a platform the factory already runs and change what matters for your market. That might be the screen, the sensor set, the case or the strap programme. The platform absorbs the engineering risk; the changes create the differentiation.
Requested changes fall into four cost tiers that differ by orders of magnitude: software configuration, firmware image work, new tooling, and new silicon. A supplier who will not tell you which tier your request sits in is not saving you a conversation, only delaying it.
Target retail price, target volume, destination markets, the sensor and connectivity list you cannot compromise on, and your artwork in vector form. With those five things a useful quotation takes one exchange instead of five.
Our minimum order quantity is 3,000 pcs. Samples run 1 to 3 working days after payment, and bulk production 20 to 25 working days after deposit. Warranty is 12 months, excluding man-made damage.

Panel choice drives battery life, daylight readability, case thickness and cost. Here is how the two behave in the models in this catalogue.
Battery capacity explains less than buyers expect. Screen, radio and sensor duty cycle explain most of it, and the numbers in this catalogue show why.
IP ratings describe a laboratory test, not a swimming pool. Here is what each rating in this catalogue actually permits.
Four calling models, four different answers. Screen size, case material, audio path and ruggedness are the axes that actually separate them.
A standalone watch phone is a network device before it is a wearable. Most deployment failures are SIM and carrier problems, not hardware problems.
Straps decide comfort, skin reaction and how many SKUs one hardware build can produce. Here is what the materials in this range do.
OEM on a running model, because no engineering change is needed. ODM adds a change assessment and an engineering sample stage.
