Ceiling Crane for a Metro Vehicle Inspection and Repair Depot

Vehicle maintenance has to happen above and around a train that occupies most of the bay, so floor mounted lifting was never a realistic option. The depot needed lifting that worked from the ceiling structure, left the working area clear underneath, and could be trusted to keep the metro system safe and efficient rather than becoming another item requiring maintenance itself.

A ceiling crane was specified and mounted directly to the depot roof structure so that lifting happens overhead and ground level operations are not obstructed. The installation uses high standard tools and techniques suited to inspection and repair work, with a customisable track layout arranged around the bays rather than a single fixed run, and smooth precise operation at the hook so that parts can be brought down onto a vehicle under control.

The crane came from a factory in our network whose regular output is ceiling and workshop class equipment rather than heavy industrial girders, so the depot was not buying the lightest machine a heavy crane builder could offer. Track sections mounting components and the hoist were consolidated into a single despatch.

The depot gained overhead lifting that leaves the floor of the bay clear, with the track routed to follow where the work actually happens. Inspection and repair of the metro vehicles is carried out without a lifting frame competing for space around the train.
