Overhead Cranes for an Aluminium Processing Plant
Case Study

Overhead Cranes for an Aluminium Processing Plant

An aluminium plant carrying out non ferrous metal processing including melting casting calendering and forging, with the plant working the continuous pattern that non ferrous processing requires.

Challenge

Project Challenge

Non ferrous processing puts lifting equipment into a harsh environment and then asks it to be precise. The plant needed heavy cranes that would keep working in those conditions while still positioning accurately and lifting smoothly, because in melting and casting work an imprecise move is a safety problem as much as a production one.

Pain Points

Customer Pain Points

The processing environment is severe and equipment specified for lighter duty does not survive it

Continuity of work means the plant cannot stop while a crane is repaired

Melting and casting operations demand positioning accuracy and smooth lifting together

Heavy tonnage machines have to fit a building that already exists

Solution

Our Solution

Overhead cranes were supplied for the plant in the heavy tonnage class, including a forty tonne winch double crane and a fifty five tonne overhead crane for the aluminium processing areas. The specification was driven by the performance requirements the sector imposes, namely continuity of work, positioning accuracy and smoothness of lifting, with the structure and protection chosen for the harsh environment on the plant floor.

Supply Chain

Supply Chain Coordination

Both machines were placed with a factory whose regular output is heavy tonnage cranes for non ferrous processing rather than a general workshop supplier taking on a large job. The structures were shipped in sections marked to the erection drawing, with the winch assemblies and electrical equipment crated and listed separately.

QC

Quality Control

Certification was verified during factory selection and pre production checks were made before steel was cut. Fabrication welding and the protective coating were inspected on our visits, and the load tests on both machines were witnessed and reported with the handover documents.

Result

Final Result

The plant operates heavy overhead lifting at forty and fifty five tonnes across its processing areas, meeting the continuity accuracy and smoothness that non ferrous work demands in an environment that defeats lighter equipment.

Benefit

Customer Benefit

The plant has lifting that keeps the melting and casting sequence moving without unplanned stops, with the erection sequence and spare parts route settled at the time of purchase rather than improvised later.
