Buying Guide
Most field failures happen at the joint rather than in the middle of a hose length. Coupling choice comes down to three questions: which standard, which material, and how often the joint will be made and broken.
A coupling that will not connect to the equipment already on site is worthless whatever its quality. Storz couplings are made to DIN14301 and DIN14303 for fire service interoperability. Camlock is made to MIL-C-27487F, the standard most industrial camlock equipment follows. Bauer, multilug and quick VIC each serve their own installed base.
Aluminium with surface anodisation is light and suits water and general duty. Brass and stainless steel are specified where the chemistry would attack aluminium. Galvanised or stainless steel is chosen for agricultural and industrial duty that would wear aluminium out. PP is available in the camlock range.
A line that is assembled once and left alone can use a clamped joint. A water transfer campaign that relocates between pads breaks and remakes the joint constantly, which is why quick VIC couplings are specified for TPU layflat hose in oil and gas and dewatering.
At 6 inch and above, uneven clamping is what makes a joint leak. The multilug coupling spreads load around the circumference through multiple lugs rather than concentrating it, and lugs should be tightened evenly in sequence rather than one at a time.
A coupling matched to the actual hose outside diameter and wall, fitted in a plant and pressure tested as one assembly, removes the most common field variable. Jason makes both in the same plant, so assemblies are supplied complete and tested at 1.5 times working pressure for 2 hours.
