Flooring Surface and Back Seal
Both faces of a floorboard matter. This covers the textured and stained top face and the sealed back that keeps the board flat in service.
Stage By Stage
Every Step And The Problem It Exists To Solve
Calibrate
Problem: Board thickness must be consistent before any texture work
Wide belt sanding to a set thickness across 1000 or 1300 mm
Brush the grain
Problem: A brushed or rustic range needs repeatable texture depth
Drawing and polishing rollers cut the soft grain, disc brushes with a swing device deepen the texture
Stain
Problem: Colour that sits on the surface leaves the pore light
Brush rollers work stain into the dented holes so the grain reads clearly
Coat the face
Problem: Floor coatings need build without roller marks
Roller coating for build, curtain coating where the finish must be mark free
Seal the back
Problem: An unsealed back takes moisture from the subfloor and the board cups
Back coating blocks over 80 percent of the water entering from the back side
Cure
Problem: Throughput depends on how quickly the coating hardens
UV curing sized to the line speed, or IR levelling before cure
