Glass Insulators For Substations
Strain and support assemblies for substation gantries and bus work, in clean and polluted air.
Substation insulation lives closer to people, plant and auxiliary equipment than line insulation does, and a flashover inside the fence has consequences a mid-span flashover does not. Huasheng supplies insulators for overhead line and substation applications up to 500 kV AC and 400 kV DC.
Pain Points In This Environment
- Pollution accumulates faster inside a substation because air movement is obstructed by structures
- Outages for inspection are harder to arrange than on a line section
- Strain assemblies on gantries carry static tension continuously with no relief
- Condition assessment on porcelain strings inside a live yard is slow and hazardous
What Buyers Actually Need
- Creepage chosen for the local pollution level rather than a default standard shed
- Units whose condition can be judged visually from a walking inspection
- Mechanical classes matched to the continuous tension on gantry strain sets
- Documented routine testing to support the acceptance process
Where These Units Are Installed
Gantry Strain Assemblies
Continuous static tension on incoming and outgoing bays. Classes are selected from the published tension proof load rather than the failing load, with 20 mm to 32 mm couplings on the heavier sets.
Polluted Air Inside The Fence
Where a substation sits near a coast, a cement works or a chemical plant, fog profiles give 400 mm or 450 mm of creepage on the same 146 mm spacing as the standard unit.
Visual Condition Assessment
A toughened glass shell that has failed is missing, not merely degraded. A yard walk identifies defective units without an outage and without survey equipment.
Standardising On One Supplier
Running line and substation insulation from the same product family keeps marking, coupling sizes and replacement stock consistent across the asset base.

Send Us The Line Data
Conductor, span, angle, ice and wind case, plus the pollution assessment for the corridor. That is enough to narrow the class and the profile before anything is quoted.
Substations Questions
Which profile should a coastal substation use?
Fog type. The same salt deposition that drives pollution flashover on the adjacent line section reaches the yard, and inside a substation there is less air movement to clear it.
Do you supply post or pin insulators for bus support?
Huasheng makes cap and pin suspension insulators in toughened glass. For post and bus support items outside that family, tell us what the assembly needs and we will be straightforward about what is and is not in our range.
How do I size a gantry strain set?
From the continuous design tension against the published tension proof load for the class, with the margin your design code requires. The tables on each product page list both proof load and failing load.

How To Select A Suspension Insulator Strength Class
Mechanical failing load is the number in the class name. Tension proof load is the number you should be sizing against.

Profile answers the environment, class answers the load case. Send us both and we will confirm what matches in our published tables.
