Glass Insulators

The full Huasheng range of cap and pin toughened glass suspension insulators for overhead lines and substations, from U40B to U500B.

4 Products In This Family

Every unit Huasheng makes belongs to this family. A pressed and thermally toughened glass shell, a galvanised malleable iron cap, a forged steel pin, cemented together and proof loaded. What changes between products is the shed profile and the strength class, and those two choices are what a line designer actually makes.

Problems This Family Solves

  • Line crews cannot identify a punctured unit on a porcelain string without survey equipment
  • Pollution flashover risk rises every year as industrial and coastal deposits build on the shed
  • Specifications arrive written in GB designations one month and IEC the next
  • Strings sized on failing load alone leave no defined routine test margin

Who Specifies It

  • Transmission utilities maintaining lines from 35 kV up to 500 kV AC
  • EPC contractors procuring insulator strings for new line and substation packages
  • Line hardware distributors who need one glass supplier behind a full fittings catalogue
  • Brand owners requiring private label marking on standard designs

Core Advantages

  • Self-identifying failure mode, the shell shatters and the stub stays visible from ground level
  • Toughened glass does not age electrically the way a porcelain dielectric or a polymer housing does
  • Strength classes from 40 kN to 550 kN mechanical failing load from one plant
  • GB, ANSI, BS, DIN, AS and IEC designs produced on the same line

Where It Is Used

  • Suspension strings on tangent towers
  • Tension and dead end sets on angle and terminal towers
  • Substation strain and bus support assemblies
  • Replacement and refurbishment of ageing porcelain strings
Questions Buyers Ask

Glass Insulators Questions

What is the difference between the three shed profiles you make?

Standard type has a ribbed underside and is the default for clean and lightly polluted air. Fog type keeps the same 146 mm spacing but extends creepage to 400 mm or 450 mm for salt fog and industrial pollution. Aerodynamic type removes the ribs and widens the shed to 380 mm or 420 mm so wind carries deposits off the surface, which suits desert and sandstorm regions.

Which standards do you build to?

GB, ANSI, BS, DIN, AS and IEC standard designs, for power transmission lines and substations. Tell us the designation in your specification and the units are produced and marked against that class.

What system voltages do your insulators cover?

Huasheng specialises in insulator manufacture for systems up to 500 kV AC and 400 kV DC.

Can you supply units marked with our own brand?

Yes. We provide OEM service and private label your brand, and products can be customised. This is a standard arrangement for distributors carrying their own line fittings catalogue.

Tell Us The Site Conditions And The Load Case

Pollution type and severity set the profile. Conductor, span and angle set the strength class. Send both and we will point at the column in the table.
