Each stage below is a real failure point we see in enquiries, and the answer we give.
Define the cleaning regime
The problem. Suppliers quote splash proof scales for areas that get a pressure hose every night.
How we solve it. We ask how the area is cleaned first. Wipe and rinse points to IP67, hose down points to IP68 with a sealed PCB design and a ventilated sealing ring on the cell.
Choose the housing
The problem. Painted and plastic housings craze and trap water where cleaning chemicals sit.
How we solve it. Stainless steel housings on bench scales, stainless steel 304 single deck construction with no frame on floor scales.
Seal the electronics
The problem. Water finds the keypad and the PCB long before it finds the load cell.
How we solve it. Waterproof rubber keypads and fully sealed PCB designs on the IP68 models, with sealed junction boxes on floor scales.
Specify the cell
The problem. Alloy steel cells corrode in salt and chemical environments.
How we solve it. Stainless steel shear beam and column cells rated IP67 or IP68, hermetically welded or potted, with published corrosion resistance.
Keep it readable
The problem. Operators in gloves cannot read a small display through condensation.
How we solve it. Backlit LED and large digit LCD displays, with optional rear displays where a second person reads the weight.
Approval for trade
The problem. A hygienic scale that cannot be used for selling by weight defeats the purpose.
How we solve it. CE and OIML approved versions are available in the waterproof platform range.

Is IP67 enough for a food plant?
It depends on the cleaning. IP67 handles rinsing and wiping. If the area is hosed down at the end of every shift, specify IP68.
What makes the IP68 models different?
On the Super-SS the difference is a complete sealing approach: stainless steel housing, waterproof rubber keypad, fully sealed PCB design and a ventilated sealing ring for the load cell, plus a high standard waterproof and corrosion proof cell.
Can the floor scale go in a washdown hall?
Yes. The stainless steel floor scale is an all stainless steel 304 single deck without a frame, with a 5 mm top plate, a stainless waterproof junction box and 5 m cable.
Which load cells suit salt and chemical exposure?
Stainless steel families such as the B8D shear beam and BM14C column cell, which are potted or hermetically welded and resist corrosive gas and media.
