Material Guide

Engineering Plastics POM and PEEK

POM and PEEK for insulating, low-friction and lightweight parts inside otherwise metal assemblies.

Overview

Why Choose This Material

Not every part in the assembly should be metal. Plastics are machined where the job is insulation, low friction or weight.

  • Electrically insulating where a metal part would short a circuit
  • Low friction for sliding and bearing surfaces
  • Much lighter than any of the metals offered
  • PEEK where the part sees higher temperature than POM will take
Trade-Offs

What To Watch For

  • Threads in plastic strip more easily than in metal — consider a metal insert
  • Plastics move more with temperature than the metal parts around them
  • Anodizing and plating do not apply; finish is as-machined

Every point above is a design decision, not a warning. Raise it while the drawing is still open and it costs nothing to solve.

FAQ

Engineering Plastics POM and PEEK Questions

Which plastics do you machine?

Engineering plastics including POM and PEEK are listed among the materials GRACTS machines. Other materials are available on request.

Can you machine plastic and metal parts in the same order?

Yes. Mixed assemblies are quoted together, and 3D printing is available alongside machining through the same supplier network.

Can plastic parts be threaded?

They can, but threads in plastic wear faster than in metal. If the thread will be cycled often, ask about a metal insert when you send the drawing.

Quote A Part In Engineering Plastics POM and PEEK

Send the drawing with quantity and finish. If the material is wrong for the application you will be told before the part is cut, not after.
