Start With The Wrap Arm Width

Round module wrap is not a general purpose film that can be cut to fit. The wrap arm on an onboard module building harvester is built around a 2.7 m film width, which is 106 inches. If the film is narrower the module is not fully covered at the ends, and if it is wider it will not track on the arm. Confirm this number before anything else, because it is the one that decides whether a product can run at all.

Check Wrap Length And Wraps Per Roll

Wrap length and wraps per roll together tell you what a roll actually produces. TS-WRAP runs 21 m of wrap length and 24 wraps per roll, which is what lets a gin convert a roll count into a module count and a module count into a cost per acre. A supplier who will not state wraps per roll is asking you to discover it during picking.

Confirm The Machines It Is Made For

Not every picker builds modules the same way. Ask for the machine list explicitly. Ask How The Tail Is Sealed

The tail of the wrap has to close or the module opens in the turn row. A film with a dedicated adhesive layer closes the tail as the module is released, without an operator climbing down with a roll of tape. This is a small detail that turns into real minutes per module when the picker is running all day.

Then Look At Storage Life And Colour

Cotton wrap keeps for at least two years in a warehouse and holds at least six months of outdoor exposure on a module. That first figure means a roll bought late in a season is not wasted, and the second sets how long a module can reasonably wait for a truck. Colour is the last decision, and most gin yards use it to separate grower lots on sight: yellow, purple, green, pink, red and blue are available.

One Last Question Worth Asking

Cotton module wrap has a history of patent disputes between suppliers, and a mid season supply interruption is far more expensive than a price difference per roll.
