Overview
Solid tungsten carbide rods are the base blank for drills end mills reamers burrs and wear pins. Our rods are pressed and densified by Sinter-HIP then supplied sintered or ground depending on how you finish them. Diameters lengths and tolerance class are agreed from your drawing or your existing rod specification.

Material and Grade
Cemented tungsten carbide consisting of tungsten carbide grain in a cobalt binder. Binder content and grain size are chosen against your load case because hardness and toughness move in opposite directions. Our engineers propose a direction and explain the trade off rather than quoting a grade code you cannot verify. See the grade guide.

How It Is Made
Manufacturing Process and Quality Control
Every part follows the same production route. Critical dimensions are agreed on the drawing so both sides measure the same thing.

Use Guide
Fitting and Service Guide
- Check the seat is clean and undamaged before fitting. Uneven support is the most common cause of early failure.
- Use even pressure. Never drive a carbide part into a holder by impact.
- Follow the interference fit agreed on the drawing rather than adjusting the carbide.
- Store parts separated and supported. Carbide chips carbide when parts knock together.
- Log the run time achieved so replacement becomes planned maintenance.

Solid Carbide Rods FAQ
Can you supply rods in the sintered condition instead of ground?
Yes. State whether you grind the rods yourself. Sintered blanks are supplied with grinding stock left on the diameter and ground rods are supplied to the diameter tolerance agreed in the order.
Which carbide grade should I use for solid rods?
It depends on whether the tool is loaded mainly by abrasion or mainly by impact. Send us the workpiece material and the tool type on WhatsApp and our engineers will propose a grade before you order.
What is the maximum rod length you can produce?
Length is confirmed for each diameter when we quote. Send the diameter and length you need and we will confirm what is achievable in one piece.
Do you produce rods to a drawing or only to stock sizes?
Both. Custom made carbide rods to drawing are a standard part of our production together with the usual round blank sizes.
