Client Background

An oil field equipment application requiring a large diameter carbide sleeve with a dense drilled hole pattern. The customer name is not disclosed.

Project Challenge

Combine a large outside diameter a thin annular wall and a pattern of 176 holes in a single carbide part without cracking it during machining.

Customer Pain Points

• Steel sleeves erode in abrasive well fluid and the bore opens up
• A dense hole pattern removes material and makes the part fragile to machine
• Large diameter carbide parts are difficult to source in one piece

Our Solution

The sleeve was produced as a pressed and Sinter-HIP densified carbide blank then machined to OD 268 mm x ID 228.6 mm x H 160 mm with the full pattern of 176 holes.

Final Result

The documented finished part measures OD 268 mm x ID 228.6 mm x H 160 mm with 176 holes. A second sleeve design in the same family carries 82 holes.

A single piece carbide sleeve keeps the bore geometry stable in abrasive service and removes the joints that a fabricated alternative would need.
