Project Challenge
PCB etching produces a large volume of waste liquid carrying 100-170 g/L of copper together with ammonia, salt and ammonium chloride. The traditional route is to sell it on, where neutralisation and precipitation make sponge copper while a large quantity of ammonium ions and a small amount of copper go unused.
Our Solution
The copper is recovered by direct electrolysis instead. Electrolytic deposition extracts high purity electrolytic copper, the copper ions in the alkaline etching waste liquid are reduced, and the etching solution is reused on the production line after component preparation.
