Flatness Over Time
A slate bed holds flatness under sustained daily play which is why clubs and halls specify it. A board bed is flat when it leaves the factory and stays acceptable under domestic and light commercial use. The difference shows up after years not after weeks.
Weight and Handling
Slate changes everything downstream. The packing plan the container loading the delivery vehicle the number of people needed on site and whether the floor can take the point load. A board bed table can be handled by two people and delivered by a normal carrier.
Cost and Freight
Slate costs more as a material and costs more again in freight because you are shipping weight. For an importer selling into a home market the board bed table usually delivers a better landed cost per unit sold.
Service Life and Refurbishment
Both bed types are refurbished the same way. Cloth is replaced and cushion rubber is replaced. Those are catalogue items either way. A slate bed simply survives more refurbishment cycles before the table is retired.
The Practical Answer
Home and light hospitality use is board bed territory. Clubs halls and venues where the table is played daily for years justify slate. Specify against expected play hours rather than against prestige.
