What Cloth Does
Cloth sets the speed of the table the amount of spin the balls hold and the way the cushions respond. It is the single cheapest change that transforms how an old table plays.
Grades
Cloth is supplied in several grades. A heavier napped cloth suits home and light hospitality use and is more forgiving of casual play. Faster cloth suits venues where play quality matters. The honest selection criterion is play hours per week not price per metre.
Colour
Green and blue remain the volume colours. Beyond those cloth colour is a branding decision and hospitality and venue buyers regularly specify a colour to match an interior. Cloth is a catalogue item in several colours so a brand match is a normal order.
Cutting and Fitting
Bed cloth and rail cloth are cut separately. Rails need the cloth tensioned evenly or the cushion response goes uneven around the table. Fitting is a skilled job and it is worth doing cloth and cushion rubber in the same visit.
When to Re-cloth
Wear concentrates at the break spot and along the rails. Once the nap is polished flat at the break spot or the cloth has opened at a seam the table is due. Venues running a schedule rather than waiting for complaints keep their tables earning.
