Before You Open the Carton
Check the carton for transit damage and photograph anything you find before opening. Clear a space larger than the table. Open the carton flat on the floor rather than standing it on end.
Check the Parts Against the List
Lay out panels hardware and fittings and check them against the parts list before you start. Missing hardware discovered halfway through assembly is the most common cause of a stalled install. Hardware sets are a catalogue line and can be ordered ahead.
Build the Cabinet
Assemble the cabinet on a soft surface to protect the finish. Bring all fasteners up finger tight before final tightening so the cabinet can pull square. Tightening one corner fully before the others is what puts a twist into a cabinet.
Fit the Rods and Fittings
On a soccer table fit the bushings before the rods and slide each rod through its full travel before fitting players. On a billiard table fit the rails and pockets after the bed is set and before the final level check.
Level the Table
Use a spirit level along both diagonals and both axes. Adjust the levelling feet until the reading is consistent in every direction. On a billiard table roll a ball slowly along several lines and watch for drift. Re-check the level after the first week of play.
Hand Over
Keep the assembly manual and the parts list with the table. In a commercial venue keep a small spares kit on site from day one.
