What 15W Qi Actually Means When You Are Buying 2,000 Desk Mats
Output, sealing, zone placement and device limits - the four specifications that decide whether a charging desk accessory works in the field.
15W is a ceiling, not a promise
Output is adaptive: the pad steps between 5W, 7.5W, 10W and 15W according to what the device requests. Reaching 15W also needs a fast-charge capable adapter on the input side, which is worth stating in the kit documentation because a standard 5W plug will make the pad look faulty.
Sealing decides whether it survives cleaning
On the fabric desk mats the charging module is waterproof-sealed, so the surface can be wiped daily with a wrung-out damp cloth. Unsealed modules fail the first time a shared desk is cleaned between users. Ask for this specification explicitly if the product is going onto hot desks.
Zone placement affects daily use
On dual-zone and 4-in-1 layouts the charging area is positioned clear of the mouse travel path. The position can be moved within the mat layout at design stage - worth doing if your users are left-handed or run a large mouse area.
Device limits are real limits
Charging is specified for smartphones up to 6.7in and wireless earbuds. Qi-capable tablets up to 7in charge on the bamboo module design. Larger tablets sit on the stand without charging. Thick cases with metal plates interrupt coupling regardless of the pad.
Certification
FCC and CE apply to the charging modules and certificate copies are available on request. For import into markets requiring documented radio compliance, request the reports with the quotation rather than after the order.
