Steel Grades for Forged Gears and Shafts
A practical map of the alloy grades we forge, by application rather than by standard.
Industrial machinery
Alloy steels ranging from 4140, 4150, 4330, 4330V, 4340, 1045 and 1080, plus ASTM A350 Grade LF2 and LF6, and 304 and 316 stainless. Aluminium grades include 6061, 7050 and 7075.
Wind power
4140, 4340, S355NL, S420NL, 42CrMo4, 18CrNiMo7-6, 30CrNiMo8, 34CrNiMo6, A350-LF6 and 1552.
Gears specifically
42CrMo4, 34CrNiMo6, 18CrNiMo7-6 and 30CrNiMo8, chosen according to whether the gear is case hardened or through hardened.
Power generation
Nickel based alloys and stainless steels such as 718, Waspaloy, 230, X, 617, 625, 901, 903, 909, HR-120, 105, CrMoV, NiCrMoV, X22CrMoV, 304 and 310.
Aerospace
Alloy 718, Alloy 718 Plus, Alloy 242, Alloy C263 and Alloy 783, with titanium grades Ti 6-4 and Ti 6-2-4-2.
