Wind Power Gear Rings
Forged rings for wind turbine gears in case and through hardening grades
What Wind Power Gear Rings Is and Who It Is For
Forged rings for wind turbine gearing are supplied in the case hardening and through hardening grades the drivetrain designers rely on, including 42CrMo4, 34CrNiMo6, 18CrNiMo7-6 and 30CrNiMo8. The ring is rolled seamless so the grain runs around the circumference, which is what the tooth root needs under reversing load.
Key Benefits
- Grades matched to whether the gear is case or through hardened
- Seamless rolled construction for hoop strength at the tooth root
- Rough or semi machined delivery to suit your gear cutting line
- Same supplier can cover flanges, main shafts and bearing blanks

How It Compares
Compared with a plate cut or welded blank, a rolled ring gives continuous circumferential grain flow, which is the reason wind gearing is specified as forged rings in the first place.
Use Guide
- State the hardening route so the grade and condition are compatible
- Agree the machining allowance for distortion after heat treatment
- Send the gear drawing as well as the blank drawing where possible
