What Sits Inside A PCM Steel Coating Build Up

Nine layers between the base steel and the panel you install.

Why the build up matters

PCM steel is finished before forming. Everything that gives the panel its colour, pattern and durability is applied on the coating line, so the layer stack is the product specification.

The layers in order

Protection film, clear varnish, print, top coating, primer, chemical treatment, base steel, chemical treatment and backing coating. The full table with the material of each layer and what it does is published on the pattern steel product pages.

Where the pattern sits

The printed layer sits under the clear varnish and above the top coating. Because the pattern is covered rather than exposed, handling, forming and cleaning act on the varnish, not on the ink.

What you can change

Base steel can be GI, GL, EG, CR or aluminium. Metallic coating runs Z60 to Z275 or AZ60 to AZ180. Organic coating runs 20 to 40 micron. Top coat and varnish chemistry can be PE, SMP, HDP or PVDF according to how much weathering the panel has to take.
