Soft PVC Versus Rubber and Silicone
Three materials cover almost everything in moulded promotional products. Choosing the wrong one usually shows up as a part that looks right and feels wrong.

If the design depends on detail and colour, soft PVC. If it depends on feel and mechanical behaviour, rubber or silicone.
Soft PVC
Soft PVC is the default for souvenir magnets, key chains and character pieces. It holds fine relief, takes Pantone colour accurately and can carry ten or more separate colours in one part.
The surface is closed, so it wipes clean rather than absorbing dirt, which matters for anything displayed loose in a bin. Its limit is heat and heavy structural load: it is a decorative and light-functional material, not an engineering one.
Rubber
Rubber gives a denser, more matte feel. It suits solid shapes where the impression you want is weight in the hand rather than detail in the surface.
It also handles stretch and grip, which is why functional parts such as traction cleats are moulded in rubber rather than soft PVC. What it does not do well is fine relief or very bright colour.
Silicone
Silicone is the wristband material. It is flexible, comfortable against skin, tolerant of heat and it takes debossed or embossed lettering cleanly.
What it does not do is complex multi-colour artwork. Segmented and swirl colour effects are possible, but a ten-colour illustration is not a silicone job.
How to decide
- Does the design live or die on fine detail? Soft PVC.
- Does it need to feel heavy and matte? Rubber.
- Does it go on a wrist or near heat? Silicone.
- Does it need to stretch and grip under load? Rubber.
- Does it need eight or more colours? Soft PVC.

Which material is cheapest?
Unit cost depends far more on size and colour count than on material choice. Choosing the wrong material to save money usually costs more, because the item fails to do its job.
Can one product use two materials?
Yes. A translucent strap moulded into an opaque body, for example, needs two shots in the tool. It costs more than a single-material part and it is often what makes the piece look real.
