From Drawing to Delivered Part

The full route a custom part takes at NOWARUN: drawing review, material choice, sample, production, heat and surface treatment, inspection, packing and export.

Most sourcing problems do not start in the machine shop. They start when a drawing is quoted against an assumption, when a tolerance is agreed verbally, or when a sample is approved without the surface treatment that production will actually use. This is the sequence NOWARUN runs to close those gaps before they turn into a rejected shipment.

Stage by Stage

Where Sourcing Breaks and How It Is Closed

Drawing Review

A print with an open tolerance or a missing heat treatment note gets quoted on assumption, and the assumption is what makes the part arrive wrong.

Every drawing is read back before quoting: critical dimensions, tolerance band, material grade, heat treatment, surface treatment and packing. Anything missing is asked about rather than guessed.

Material Selection

The same part number can be made in carbon steel, alloy steel, stainless, brass or polymer, and the wrong choice only shows up in service.

Material is confirmed against the load case and the environment, including foreign standard grades where your drawing calls for them, and it is written on the order rather than left open.

Sampling

A sample approved without the production surface treatment hides the dimensional shift that plating or coating causes.

Samples run 3 to 7 working days on stamped and simple machined parts and are made through the same treatment route production will use, so the approved part is the part you get.

Production

Low volume orders get pushed behind mass production and slip.

Machining, gear cutting, MIM, stamping and ceramic parts are quoted per drawing rather than against a mass production minimum, with a stated MOQ from 1000 pieces only on stamped parts.

Heat and Surface Treatment

Hardness and coating are treated as afterthoughts, then the tooth flank or the pivot wears out in the field.

Carburizing, carbonitriding, QT, quenching, tempering and induction hardening are specified on the drawing, and surface treatment covers anodizing, plating, E-coating, Geomet, Dacromet, Delta, powder coating, polishing and oiling.

Inspection

Dimensional drift after heat treatment is the most common reason a batch is rejected on arrival.

Dimensions are checked before heat treatment, hardness after it, and gear precision against the DIN grade written on the order, using the optical comparator, hardness tester and coordinate measuring machine in the inspection room.

Packing and Export

Machined faces and gear teeth get damaged in transit when parts are packed loose.

Parts are packed in PP bag, carton, crate or box, or to whatever packing specification you supply, and shipped from Hangzhou.

From Drawing to Delivered Part Questions

What do you need from me to quote a custom part?

A drawing or a sample, the annual quantity, the material grade if you have one, and the heat and surface treatment. If the drawing is missing a tolerance or a treatment note you will be asked before the price is issued.

Can you work from a sample instead of a drawing?

Yes. The part is measured, a drawing is raised, and you approve that drawing before production starts.

How fast can I see a sample?

Sample lead time is 3 to 7 working days on stamped and simple machined parts. Gear and multi-process parts are quoted per drawing.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

On stamped parts the stated minimum is 1000 pieces and it depends on the part and its dimensions. Machined, gear, MIM and ceramic parts are quoted per drawing.

Do you supply material certificates?

Tell us at quotation stage what documentation the order needs so it is agreed before production rather than after shipment.
