Aluminium Foil for Transformer

Aluminium foil and strip supplied for transformer winding, made from pure aluminium with a minimum purity of 99.5% so electrical conductivity is maintained. The production scope covers 1050, 1060 and 1070 alloy in thicknesses of 0.2-3.00 mm and widths of 20-1500 mm, with inner diameters of 150, 200, 300, 400 and 500 mm or customised. Content is 99.6% or above, conductivity 63 %IACS or above and tensile strength above 74 MPa. Strip thickness is specified against the design requirement of the transformer, with commonly used thicknesses ranging from 0.2 mm to 3 mm.

Specifications are configured per project. Send your drawing, capacity or duty requirement and the build will be confirmed in writing with the quotation.
Why It Works

Key Benefits

Thickness supplied across 0.2-3.00 mm so the winding can be designed to the transformer rather than adapted to stock sizes

Width from 20-1500 mm means coils can be slit to the winding height instead of being trimmed on site

Content of 99.6% or above and conductivity of 63 %IACS or above keeps winding resistance and heat rise predictable

Tensile strength above 74 MPa lets the foil take winding tension without tearing at the edge

Inner diameter choice of 150 200 300 400 and 500 mm or customised matches the winding machine mandrel already installed

Problems

Problems It Solves

Stock thicknesses that do not match the winding design force the transformer design to be changed

Foil wider or narrower than the winding height has to be trimmed which wastes material and leaves burred edges

Low purity aluminium raises winding resistance and heat rise in service

Coils on the wrong inner diameter do not fit the winding machine mandrel

Comparison

How It Compares

Copper winding strip

Aluminium foil at 99.6% content and 63 %IACS or above is the lighter conductor choice for foil wound transformer designs

Standard commercial aluminium foil

Transformer foil is supplied at a minimum purity of 99.5% with conductivity and tensile figures stated

Enameled wire winding

Foil winding uses a continuous strip to the winding height while enameled wire builds the winding turn by turn
