A bolt snap has a sliding bolt pulled back by a thumb latch and closes with a spring. A trigger snap uses a pivoting gate pressed inward. Bolt snaps are usually chosen where gloves are worn, trigger snaps where one hand operation matters.

Do the swivels rotate under load

The eye and jaw swivels in this range turn on a shouldered pin so they can relieve twist. They are not designed as rotating bearings under continuous heavy load.

Which style suits a dog lead

The S225 and S225-2 swivel bolt snaps and the S251 swivel eye snap hooks are the ones leash makers usually specify. All three are stainless steel.
