Rechargeable Flood Lights Understanding Battery Capacity And Runtime

How amp-hours, charging time and working time relate, and what to check before a volume order.

Capacity Is Measured In Amp Hours

Battery capacity is quoted in amp-hours. A 4.4Ah pack holds roughly twice the energy of a 2.2Ah pack, and takes roughly twice as long to charge from the same charger.

Our rechargeable range publishes charging time and working time against the specific battery fitted - for example about five hours charging and about three hours working on the smaller pack, against about six hours charging and about six hours working on the larger one.

Runtime Depends On The Mode

A published working time assumes a particular output level. Run the same light at a lower brightness setting and it lasts considerably longer; run it at full output and it lasts less.

On dimmable models this is a real operational lever. A site light that spends most of a shift at half output covers a whole shift on a battery that would not survive at full power.

Replaceable Battery Cases

Part of our rechargeable range takes a replaceable battery case. That turns a light limited by one charge into a light limited by how many charged packs you own.

For work that genuinely runs longer than a charge, this is the variant to specify. For occasional and emergency use, the sealed versions are simpler and cheaper.

Charging Inputs And Vehicles

The range is specified with a DC 12/24V recharge input, which covers a mains adaptor and a vehicle supply. That matters on sites where the vehicle is the only power source.

Storing Emergency Stock

A battery left flat for months degrades. Emergency stock should be stored partially charged and cycled periodically rather than charged once and forgotten.

The emergency models add a red flashing mode alongside the working light, which is worth specifying if the same unit has to serve as roadside or incident lighting.
