How To Design Lighting For a Classic Building

The ancient city of Pingyao, built in the Western Zhou Dynasty, was listed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO in 1997 and is a witness to the development of human civilization around the world.

In the lighting design, the designer selects the precise light distribution fixtures to strictly control the light pollution; the lamps are hidden as much as possible to maintain the original appearance of the ancient city. Through the depiction of the facade of the ancient city buildings, the shape, the atmosphere and the lighting effect of the ancient buildings are more three-dimensional and vivid, and the beauty of the ancient Chinese architecture is fully presented to the world.

Wangjia Courtyard is located in Jingsheng Town, Lingshi County, Shanxi Province. It was built by Jingsheng Wangjia, one of the four major families in Lingshi County, with a total area of over 250,000 square meters. Here, one unit and one place all reveal a rich cultural atmosphere. It is a master of the Qing Dynasty residential architecture, and is known as the “first house of Chinese residence”.

Under the principle of “not embodying the old style of the compound without damaging the ancient architecture”, the designer enters the compound before design, analyzes the architectural style characteristics, refines the culture contained in the building, and traces the spirit of the Chinese people in the feudal era.
