Why Fanfold Exists

Fanfold kraft paper folding machines fold continuous sheets of paper into fanfolded stacks, which is a more efficient and cost-effective way of packaging and shipping products than handling rolls at the bench. The paper is made from long fibres of unbleached wood pulp, so it is strong and durable enough to withstand heavy handling.

The Machine Sequence

The parent reel is loaded on a 3 inch inflatable air shaft, on the high speed models by an automatic lifting system. The web is perforated, folded in a zig-zag pattern by a series of rollers and blades, and stacked by conveyor. A zig-zag fold creates the pleated effect that lets the stack feed continuously from the bottom of a dispenser.

Fold Length And Why It Is Fixed At Build Time

Perforation and folding length is adjustable between 8 and 15 inch, with 11 inch as the standard build, and the module has to be changed to move between lengths. Because the fold length has to match the dispenser in use, it is agreed before the machine is built rather than adjusted afterwards.

Single Layer And Two Layer

A single layer fanfold tears on sharp corners and heavy goods. The C-fold machine feeds two rolls and folds them inline into one two layer paper, which is much stronger at the surface and is used as a cushioning material rather than only as void fill.
