Ask what they will sample before mass production

The single most useful commitment a factory can make is a pre-production sample, photographed and approved in writing, before the run starts. If a supplier will not put that in the order terms, every other promise is unverifiable. Ours runs 5 to 7 days after payment and artwork confirmation.

Check whether they tool inserts from real samples

A cosmetic set mixes glass droppers, compacts and tubes. Cavities cut from a technical drawing are usually a millimetre out, and a millimetre is the difference between a fixed bottle and a broken one. Send the physical components and ask for the cavity to be cut from them.

Separate the factory from the trader

A trading company can quote anything because it is quoting someone else's capability. A direct factory has to tell you what its presses and shaping lines actually do. Ask whether the company owns the equipment, and ask to send an inspection agent.

Read the MOQ terms, not just the MOQ

A 1000 pcs minimum means something different when a range has six colourways. Ask for the per-size, per-colour minimum. Ours is 500 pcs for each size and colour when an order spans variants.

Confirm certification against your market

European retail buyers will ask for a social audit and chain of custody on paper. We hold BSCI, FSC, ISO9001 and ISO14001. Ask for current certificates rather than a list on a website, and confirm whether your order will run on certified stock.

Look at how they answer a structural question

Send one specific question, such as how they would stop a 30ml dropper bottle moving in a four-piece set. The answer tells you whether you are talking to a packaging engineer or a salesperson.

Talk it through with the factory
