The Short Version
Tableware and cutlery finishing lines use sisal plane buffs for initial sanding or matt finish, followed by cotton or treated cotton wheels with polishing compound for bright finish. CRATOOLS supplies the forming, pressing and trimming machines that produce these buffs, along with the raw materials and iron centres used in the process. The same machines used in buffing wheel factories are applied here to automate the production of consistent, repeatable polishing wheels.
Where It Goes Wrong
- Manual buff construction leads to inconsistent ply spacing and uneven pressure during polishing
- Hand assembly of sisal and cotton buffs takes multiple workers and varies by operator skill
- Sisal and cotton materials from different suppliers do not match machine settings or wheel geometry
- Changing between matt and bright finish wheels requires retooling or new setups with no standardisation
What Buyers Need
- A forming machine that maintains consistent wheel shape and ply alignment across shifts
- Tooling compatible with 2 inch, 2.5 inch and 5 inch iron claws or iron plates with round or hexagon holes
- Raw materials such as treated fabric, sisal cloth, and cotton that match machine parameters
- English-language machine interface and operator training for consistent operation
Typical Situations
- A tableware manufacturer adding a sisal plane buff line for initial sanding before bright polishing
- A cutlery shop automating the production of 300 mm diameter buffs with iron clinch ring centres
- A workshop producing both matt and bright finish wheels on the same line using CRA-800 and CRA-300 machines
- A facility upgrading from hand-made buffs to a fully automated line with CRA-500, CRA-800, CRA-600 and CRA-700
How The Work Runs
Step 1
Bias fabric cutting and rolling on the CRA-500 to feed the former on the bias
Step 2
Forming on the CRA-800 for 200 to 600 mm wheels or CRA-300 for 100 to 250 mm iris wheels
Step 3
Pressing on the CRA-600 buffing polishing wheel pressing machine
Step 4
Edge and trim cutting on the CRA-700
Step 5
Sewing where needed using an SG01M spiral stitch machine or one metre long arm machine
