Furniture is a low-density cargo, which means you pay for volume, not weight. Every millimetre of carton is a line in your freight bill.

A ten per cent reduction in carton volume is usually worth more than a ten per cent reduction in material cost.

Where the volume hides

Void space inside the carton. Cartons sized to a standard rather than to the parts. Assembled sub-frames that could have shipped flat. Nesting sets packed as singles.

Nesting and stacking

Nesting tables, stacking chairs and stacking stools exist because of freight economics. On contract quantities they can change the viability of an order outright.

Plan the load before you confirm the order

A loading plan agreed before the order closes tells you the real landed cost. A loading plan calculated after production tells you what you already owe.

Mixed containers

For importers, the advantage of a wide catalogue is that the container can be planned as one load rather than assembled from several suppliers' leftovers.
