Rigid Card & Paper Boxes

Cardboard carcass, paper or coated-paper wrap, foam insert covered in velour or satin — the construction behind most of the PB series and the confectionery packs.

How it is built

A rigid box is made from cut and creased board that is then wrapped, rather than printed and folded from a single blank. That is what gives the square edge and the weight in the hand, and it is why the covering paper can be changed without touching the box tooling.

The insert does the presenting

Inside, a foam block is cut to the piece and covered in velour or satin. The insert is what holds a ring upright, keeps a chain from coiling and stops a watch moving in transit. It is also where colour contrast is won or lost — a pale insert under a polished metal piece is what makes it read under retail lighting.

Where it is the right choice

Where the pack ships with the product and is opened a handful of times, where a foil stamp or emboss is planned, and where a colour range has to run off one shape. Where stock is handled constantly on an open counter, a moulded plastic shell will outlast it.
