Know The Rule Before You Choose The Colour

On a mine or quarry site the whip is safety equipment and the site standard usually sets a minimum height and often a fixed colour. An RGB whip that cycles through colours may not be acceptable there even though it is the most popular product in the recreational market. Read the site standard first; it makes the rest of the decision straightforward.

Height Is About Sight Lines

The whole point of a whip is that it clears the crest or the berm that hides the vehicle. That is a geometry problem specific to your site or your terrain, not a matter of taste. Too short and it does nothing; excessively long and it whips harder at speed and fatigues its base faster.

The Base Fitting Is The Failure Point

The core of a whip is designed to bend and recover. The place where stress concentrates is the transition at the base, and that is where whips break. Mount the base to a structural point on the cage rather than to a body panel, and leave a service loop in the cable below the fitting so the cable is not being pulled every time the whip deflects.

Recreational Versus Site Fitment

Recreational buyers want colour modes, app control and chase patterns, usually paired with underbody addressable strip for a matched effect. Site fleets want a fixed colour, a specified height and something that survives a corrugated haul road. The same product platform can serve both, but the specification is different, so say which you are buying for.

Maintenance

Inspect the base fitting at every service interval. Fatigue shows there first, and a whip that is beginning to fail at the base is visible long before it snaps. Check the cable entry at the same time, since that is the second most common failure point.
