The Key Components of a 3D Sign Printer

A sign printer is a set of components, and the differences between machines usually live in two or three of them. This is what each part does and where the MITO series differs from a common configuration.

Filament Rack

The rack carries the spool holders and the filament shortage sensors. It is made of metal with a matte paint finish, tall and stable for long term use. MITO-80 and MITO-120 carry three spool holders and three shortage sensors, where a common rack on the market carries two of each.

Spool Holder

The spool holder is a hexagonal rotary shaft with two white knobs, and the filament spool loads onto the shaft between them. The hexagonal design lets the spool rotate smoothly and quietly during printing. The white knobs themselves are printed on the sign printer.

Filament Shortage Sensor

This is the component that protects an overnight job. If any of the three spool holders runs out, the sensor alarms and printing pauses automatically, which saves energy and avoids nozzle jamming. Printing resumes once a new spool is loaded.

Why Three Spool Holders Matter

Three installed rolls is what allows a sign to be printed in three four or five colours without stopping to change material mid job. A two roll rack caps the design range of every job the machine runs.

The Filament Itself

Filament is the basic material of any printed product. PETG-S was developed for MITO-80 and MITO-120 specifically for signage, because it is UV resistant, high and low temperature resistant, waterproof and has the light diffusing effect an illuminated face needs.

Bed Hot End and Extruder

The printing bed holds the work while it builds, which is why platform glue is applied before every job. The hot end and extruder system melt and place the material, running at 230 to 250 degrees at the nozzle with the bed at 40 to 60 degrees, through a 0.6 mm or 0.8 mm aperture chosen for signage rather than fine modelling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to what buyers ask before ordering this topic.

Why three spool holders instead of two

Three installed rolls allow three four or five colour signs without a material change mid job.

What does the filament shortage sensor do

It pauses printing automatically when a spool runs out, which avoids nozzle jamming and wasted machine hours.

Which nozzle aperture is used

0.6 mm or 0.8 mm. A larger aperture prints faster and jams less than a fine modelling nozzle.
