Grade 30 Grade 43 And Grade 70 Chain Compared

Grade 30 Proof Coil
A general purpose low carbon steel chain with uniform links and good flexibility, for hanging, light securing, farm equipment and daily hardware use. Nominal weights and dimensions carry a plus or minus 4% tolerance.

Grade 43 High Test
Medium carbon steel, heat treated, with a higher strength-to-weight ratio than proof coil. It covers towing, logging, construction and general industrial rigging where oversizing proof coil would be the only alternative.

Grade 70 Transport
Heat treated alloy steel built specifically for tie-down and cargo securement on trucks and trailers. It is the grade roadside inspections expect to see on a load binder.

None Of Them Are For Overhead Lifting
Proof coil, high test and transport chain all carry the same caution: do not use for overhead lifting. For overhead duty use a chain specified for it, such as Australian Standard short link chain.

ASTM80 Or NACM96
The same three grades are produced to both ASTM80 and NACM96. The steel and the duty are the same. Which one you order depends on which specification your customer's documentation names.

Can I use Grade 70 chain for lifting?
No. Grade 70 transport chain is for tie-down and securement. Do not use it for overhead lifting.
What does the 4% tolerance mean?
Nominal weights and dimensions are subject to a plus or minus tolerance of 4%, which matters when you are calculating drum weights.
Which grade replaces oversized proof coil?
