Why This Approach Exists
Every roof-mounted array has to get its cable inside. On a vehicle or a boat that penetration is the single most common source of water ingress — and it is usually handled with a bare hole and a smear of sealant that fails within a season or two.
Method
How It Is Done Step by Step
1 — Choose single or double
One gland for a single cable run, two where both legs of the array cross the roof line through one penetration.
2 — Site it away from traffic
These boxes should not be walked on, so they are not recommended for boat decks or narrowboat roofs.
3 — Drill only for the cable
Then clean and degrease the surface around the hole.
4 — Bond the housing down
Secure the body with a suitable sealant; it can be screwed down as well for extra security.
5 — Seal on the cable
Once dry, pass the cables through and tighten the lockrings to form the waterproof seal and provide strain relief.
