What It Is and What It Does

The panel is only half the job. Every roof-mounted array has to get its cable inside, and the hole that cable goes through is the single most common source of water ingress on a converted vehicle or a boat. This is a water-proof cable entry gland that seals to the roof or deck of a boat, yacht or caravan, so cable holes can be drilled and sealed without risk of leaking.

The housing is moulded from thick UV-resistant plastic with a large sealing area — the large footprint is deliberate, because a wide bond spreads the adhesive load and keeps the seal intact when the roof flexes. It takes 6–12 mm cable and provides a watertight seal to protect the electrical connection inside.

Materials and manufacture

What It Is Made From

Thick UV-resistant plastic rather than a thin-wall moulding. The wall thickness is what lets the housing be bonded down hard and stay flat, and the large sealing area gives the adhesive enough surface to hold through roof flex and thermal movement.
