The problem
Why This Approach Exists
Where the roof is metal, timber or otherwise able to take a fixing, a mechanical mount is simpler and stronger than a bonded one. The questions that remain are how high to stand the panel off the surface and how many feet it needs.
Method
How It Is Done Step by Step
1 — Pick the foot height
38 mm Z feet for a low profile; 100 mm where you want airflow and room to work on a ribbed or curved roof.
2 — Count the feet
Four per square module up to 85 W. Six per larger rectangular module — one set at each end, one set in the middle of the frame rail.
3 — Bolt to the panel
Stainless hardware for fastening the mounts to the panel frame is included with the sets.
4 — Fix to the surface
Surface fasteners are not supplied, because the right one depends entirely on whether you are going into steel, timber, brick or composite.
5 — Seal every penetration
Roof sealant under each mount and under the head of every fastener.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why are surface fixings not included?
Because they vary so much from one application to another. A fastener right for a steel roof is wrong for a composite caravan roof.
Do the brackets fit my panel?
They fit any solar electric panel with a standard aluminium frame, including BP, Suntech Power, GE and Kyocera modules.
Four feet or six?
Four for smaller square modules up to 85 watts, six for larger rectangular modules.
Can I bond aluminium feet instead of drilling?
Yes. For the flush mount kit we advise Sikaflex 221 heavy duty bonding sealant so there is no need to drill through a caravan or motor home roof.
