Choosing A Wall Panel By Room Condition

Eight wall panel ranges look like eight choices. They are really three questions asked in order.

Nearly every wall panel complaint traces back to a material chosen before the room was described. Wet, dry, indoor, outdoor and acoustic are different problems, and the panel that solves one is the wrong answer to another. Work through these stages in order and the range narrows to one or two codes.

Stage By Stage

Choosing A Wall Panel By Room Condition In 6 Steps

Describe the room before the look

The look is the last decision, not the first.

Dry interior wall, humid room, exterior elevation or a room with an echo problem. Each of those points at a different material, and the finish options exist inside all of them.

Take the wet rooms out first

This is the decision that fails most often on site.

Kitchens, bathrooms, basements and very humid climates need bamboo charcoal panels, PVC panels or PVC ceiling. Interior WPC and PS panels belong on dry interior walls.

For exteriors, move to the outdoor range

An interior panel on an elevation fails in its first summer.

Outdoor WPC cladding at 219x26mm or 156x21mm carries a co-extruded weather skin that the interior panels do not have.

If the room has an echo problem, the answer is the slat panel

A printed flute looks acoustic and does nothing.

Wood slat acoustic panels absorb because sound reaches the recycled plastic felt behind the slats. No other panel in this range does that.

Only now pick the module and the depth

Module decides the rhythm, depth decides the shadow.

160mm gives fine lines, 196mm and 210mm cover more wall per piece. 10mm and 12mm read flat, 23mm throws a strong shadow.

Cut to the wall, not to a stock length

Offcuts are money already spent.

Length is customizable across the WPC ranges. Send the ceiling height and the panels arrive cut.

Questions

Choosing A Wall Panel By Room Condition Questions

Can I use an interior panel in a bathroom?
Use bamboo charcoal, PVC panel or PVC ceiling instead. They are the ranges made for humid rooms.
Do I need a different panel for a ceiling?
For kitchens and bathrooms, yes: PVC ceiling panels weigh about a third of ceramic tile.
How do I decide the depth?
By the shadow you want under the room's lighting. Ask for samples in two depths and look at them on the wall.
