A Pre-Shipment Inspection Checklist for Furniture Orders

What a useful furniture inspection actually looks at, in the order it should look at it.

Check the reference first

An inspection without the approved sample present is an opinion. The first thing on site should be the reference the production was built against.

Frame and joint

Frame flat and square. Joints closed and dressed. Fixing hardware correct and complete. No sharp edges on any surface a hand will touch.

Finish

Colour against the approved sample under consistent light. Coverage at edges and inside corners. No chips at contact points. Panel edges banded cleanly.

Assembly trial

Take a unit from the carton and build it with the supplied hardware and instructions. This single test finds more real problems than any other step.

Carton and marking

Carton dimensions against the drawing. Board grade correct. Internal protection present where specified. Print, barcodes and handling marks correct and legible.

Loading

Loading plan followed. Cartons not crushed at the door. Container clean and dry before loading begins.
