A Dining Set Buying Guide for Retail Buyers
Carton count, assembly time and wobble — the three numbers that decide whether a dining programme works.
Count the cartons first
A dining set is the product where carton count most directly decides profitability. One carton per set is ideal, two is workable, three means the shipment will eventually arrive incomplete.
Get the carton plan before you agree the price.
Time the assembly yourself
Have the sample assembled from the carton by someone who has not seen it before, with a timer running. That number predicts your return rate better than any specification sheet.
Wobble is a jig problem
A table that rocks on a tiled floor either has an out-of-flat frame or no levelling feet. Both are fixable before production and expensive afterwards.
Ask whether frames are checked flat on a jig before the top is fitted.
Chair-to-table clearance
Seat height against apron clearance decides whether the chairs tuck under the table. Check it on the sample with both items present, not on two separate drawings.
Plan the range not the product
A dining bay sells better when the 2-seat, 4-seat and 6-seat sets read as one family. That means matched frame colours and a shared top decor, which means ordering them together.

Questions on This Topic
Should chairs and tables be ordered together?
Yes, if the finish has to match. Separate orders mean separate coating batches.
Do stacking chairs save enough freight to matter?
On contract quantities, substantially. On a four-chair retail set, the carton plan matters more.
