Fatty Acid Methyl Ester Ethoxylates FMEE
Low-foaming, fast-rinsing methyl ester ethoxylate for industrial and hard surface cleaning, made by direct ethoxylation.
Product Overview
FMEE is a non-ionic surfactant made by ethoxylating fatty acid methyl ester directly over a special catalyst, rather than going through a fatty alcohol. Against alcohol ethers it dissolves in water far faster, foams less and breaks foam quicker, and solubilises grease more strongly. Skin irritation is comparable to APG or amino acid surfactants, biodegradation is good, and it costs less than the alcohol ether it replaces.
Key Benefits
- Dissolves in water very quickly, so it is easy to blend into liquid products
- Low foaming with fast defoaming, which is what industrial cleaning needs
- Strong grease solubilising power for hard surface cleaning
- Mild: irritation comparable to APG or amino acid surfactants
- Good biodegradation and a mild odour, at a lower price than alcohol ethers

What It Looks Like

Who It Is For
- Industrial and institutional cleaner formulators
- Liquid detergent producers
- Personal care formulators looking for a mild non-ionic
Problems It Solves
- Foam that slows down rinsing in machine and spray cleaning
- Alcohol ethers dissolving too slowly on the blending line
- Needing mildness without paying APG prices
Application Scenarios
- Liquid detergents
- Hard surface cleaning agents
- Pesticide emulsification
- Oil phase mediation
- Personal washing products
Technical Features
- Made from fatty acid methyl ester by direct ethoxylation over a special catalyst
- Registered as a national key new product in its home market
- PEG content 95 +/- 5%
- Water content at or below 0.5% and saponification value at or below 1.5
Typical Data And Dosage
Typical values are indicative of the product and are not release specifications. Figures are reproduced from the manufacturer data sheet.
| Component | RCO(EO)nOCH3 |
| Appearance | Colourless or pale yellow liquid |
| PEG | 95 +/- 5% |
| Water content | 0.5% maximum |
| Saponification value | 1.5 maximum |
| Packing | 200 kg drum |
| Transport | Non-dangerous goods |
Use Guide
- Add directly to the water phase; it dissolves quickly with normal agitation.
- Avoid long exposure during storage so quality is not affected.
- Store and transport as non-dangerous goods in the 200 kg drum it ships in.
- Where a formulation currently uses an alcohol ether, start by matching on active content and then adjust for the lower foam.
Quality Control On Your Side
- Measure foam height and collapse time against the incumbent surfactant
- Check grease removal on the actual soil, not on a standard test soil
- Confirm skin compatibility data before using in personal care
How It Compares With The Alternatives
Technical comparison against other ways of solving the same problem. Nothing here is a performance claim against a named commercial product.
| Alcohol ether AEO | Faster water solubility, lower foam, faster defoaming and stronger grease solubilising, at a lower price. |
| APG | Comparable mildness at a lower cost. |
| NP series | A fatty acid methyl ester backbone with no alkyl phenol chemistry. |
