IPDI is a colourless to slightly yellowish cycloaliphatic diisocyanate with a mild odour. Its saturated ring structure gives high hardness and excellent light stability, which is why it is the feedstock of choice for light stable polyurethane coating systems that also have to resist abrasion.

IPDI Questions
How does IPDI compare with HDI?
IPDI gives harder films and slightly slower reactivity because of its cycloaliphatic ring and its secondary NCO group. HDI derivatives are more flexible. Both are light stable, so the choice is usually hardness against flexibility.
What are the two isocyanate groups?
IPDI carries one primary aliphatic NCO on the methylene bridge and one secondary NCO on the ring, and they react at different rates. That difference is used deliberately in prepolymer and blocked isocyanate work.
Is IPDI used directly or as a derivative?

What is the hydrolysable chlorine specification?
150 mg/kg maximum on this grade, with purity at 99.5 percent minimum and colour value at 30 maximum.
