IPDI Trimer Polyisocyanate Curing Agents
Light resistant isocyanurate hardeners for high end decorative coatings
What This Product Is and Who Buys It
IPDI trimer polyisocyanates are cycloaliphatic isocyanurates formed by trimerising isophorone diisocyanate. They are light resistant curing agents for high performance polyurethane coatings, and they give higher crosslink density than linear or low functionality aliphatic isocyanates while keeping good flexibility.
Key Benefits
- Excellent light resistance and UV ageing resistance, better yellowing resistance than aromatic isocyanates
- Rapid drying with a long pot life, so application flexibility is not lost
- Well balanced hardness and flexibility from the higher crosslink density
- Good compatibility with polyurethane and alkyd resin systems

Specifications
These figures are the manufacturer grade data as published for this product family. Anything not listed below has not been confirmed and is marked TBC on request rather than estimated.
| Product | Supply Form | NCO (%) | Viscosity (23°C, mPa·s) | Typical Applications |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Z4470 MPA/X | 70% in MPA/X (1:1) | 11.9 | 1,500 | Light-stable PU coatings, alkyd resin modification |
| Z4470 BA | 70% in BA | 11.9 | 600 | Light-stable PU coatings, alkyd resin modification |
Grades listed are representative and not exhaustive. Ask for the batch certificate of analysis on the grade you intend to buy.

How to Work With This Product
- Select the solvent carrier that matches your existing system, MPA/X or butyl acetate
- Note the viscosity difference: Z4470 MPA/X at 1,500 mPa·s, Z4470 BA at 600 mPa·s at 23 degrees C
- Mix thoroughly and confirm pot life on your own line
- Reseal containers immediately after decanting
How It Compares
Within the Curing Agent category this product is positioned by the numbers in the table above rather than by a marketing claim. Compare NCO content, viscosity, equivalent weight or hydroxyl value against the alternative you are considering, and if the two are close, ask us for both samples and decide on your own line.
Quality and Documentation
Quality control runs across incoming raw materials, production and finished product inspection. A batch certificate of analysis is supplied with every shipment. We are a supply and trading company working with named manufacturers and OEM partners, so certification held by the producing plant is provided on request per grade rather than claimed here as ours.
Customisation
Customised grades and packing formats are available through our OEM partners and specialised manufacturing facilities. Tell us the property you need to move and we will say whether it is a grade change, a packaging change or not possible.
Industries Using This Product

Automotive coatings and interiors are where yellowing resistance, gloss retention and seat comfort are all judged by the end customer rather than by a laboratory.
See Applications
Adhesive makers live between two constraints: open time long enough to apply the product, and final strength high enough to replace a mechanical fastener.

What is the difference between the two grades?
Chemically they are the same isocyanurate at 11.9 percent NCO. The difference is the solvent: Z4470 MPA/X is 70 percent in MPA/X 1:1 at 1,500 mPa·s, and Z4470 BA is 70 percent in butyl acetate at 600 mPa·s at 23 degrees C.
How does IPDI trimer compare with HDI trimer?
IPDI trimer gives harder films and better yellowing resistance from the cycloaliphatic ring. HDI trimer gives more flexibility and is available solvent free. Many formulators blend the two.
Can it be used with alkyd resins?
Yes. Alkyd resin modification is a listed application for both grades, alongside light stable polyurethane coatings.
Is the pot life really longer than other aliphatics?
A long pot life with excellent application flexibility is one of the stated performance characteristics of this family. Confirm it against your own catalyst and humidity conditions before committing a batch.
