Anodized Aluminum Coil
Continuously anodized aluminum coil, 3000 to 6000 series, 0.15 to 1.0 mm, slit 5 to 1500 mm.
Overview
What This Grade Range Is For
Anodizing grows an oxide layer out of the aluminum itself rather than laying a film on top of it. The result is a surface that is part of the metal, does not peel, and wears far better under handling and cleaning. That is why it is specified for bezels, trim and any edge a user touches. We supply anodized coil across 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 series from 0.15 mm to 1.0 mm.

Key Benefits
- The finish is integral to the metal, so it cannot peel or delaminate
- Harder and more abrasion resistant than a painted surface
- Keeps a metallic appearance rather than covering it
- Supplied on coil, so the finish is applied before forming rather than part by part
Problems It Solves
- Painted trim wears through at the handled edge within the warranty period
- A metallic appearance is wanted and paint reads as plastic
- Batch anodizing of formed parts adds cost, lead time and rack marks
- Cleaning chemicals attack a painted finish in service
Who It Is For
- Consumer electronics and appliance trim producers
- Lighting and luminaire manufacturers
- Interior architectural product makers
Application Scenarios
- Visible bezels, fascias and trim on consumer products
- Lighting reflectors and luminaire bodies
- Interior architectural trim and profiles
- Handled edges and surfaces subject to cleaning
Technical Features
- Anodic oxide layer grown electrochemically from the substrate
- Applied continuously on the coil rather than to finished parts
- Available across 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 series
Manufacturing Process
How This Material Reaches You
Casting and rolling to gauge
Cleaning and etching
Continuous anodizing and sealing
Slitting to ordered width
Interleaving, recoiling and packing
Materials
- Aluminum alloy coil, 3000, 4000, 5000 and 6000 series, continuously anodized
Quality Control
- Oxide layer thickness measured before release
- Appearance and shade checked along the coil
- Seal quality checked so the surface resists staining
Customization Options
- Alloy series matched to the forming severity
- Shade and gloss level specified against a reference sample
- Slit width from 5 mm for narrow trim
Comparison
How It Compares With The Alternatives
| Compared With | What Changes |
|---|---|
| Painted Aluminum Coil | Painted coil is cheaper and reaches any colour. Anodized coil is harder, keeps a metallic look, and does not peel at a handled edge. |
| 300 Series Stainless Strip | Stainless is far stiffer and stronger at the same gauge. Anodized aluminum is much lighter and easier to form for large visible panels. |
Use Guide
Getting The Specification Right First Time
- Check the forming severity early, because a thick oxide layer tolerates less bending
- Specify shade against a physical sample; anodized shade depends on the alloy underneath
- Avoid strongly alkaline cleaners in service, which attack the oxide layer
- Keep protective film on visible faces until the part is assembled
What to Include in Your Enquiry
- The part and how it is formed, including the tightest bend radius
- The service environment and expected design life
- The strip width your die or roll former actually needs
- Coil inner diameter and maximum coil weight your decoiler accepts
Anodized Aluminum Coil Questions
Can anodized coil be formed after finishing?
Yes, within limits. The oxide layer is hard and relatively brittle, so the bend radius has to be opened up compared with bare or painted aluminum.
Why does the same shade look different on two alloys?
The anodic layer is grown out of the substrate, so the alloying elements affect the final appearance. Specify shade against a sample in the alloy you will actually use.
Is anodized aluminum more durable than painted?
On abrasion and edge wear, clearly yes, because the finish is part of the metal. On colour range and cost per square metre, painted coil wins.
What thickness range is available?
0.15 mm to 1.0 mm, slit from 5 mm to 1500 mm, the same as painted coil.
