Retail Tins

Retail formats are small enough to be bought by a household and priced for a shelf. Mushroom lines run 184G, 198G, 284G, 400G and 800G at 24 tins per carton. Vegetable and bean lines run 340G and 425G at 24 tins per carton. Fruit lines run 410G and 820G at 24 tins per carton.

Catering Tins

Catering formats are sized to a batch. Mushroom and vegetable lines use 2840G and 2500G tins packed 6 to a carton. Fruit lines use 3000G and 2650G tins packed 6 to a carton. These are the formats a hotel kitchen, a canteen or a manufacturing line will normally order.

Glass Jars

Jars run 314ML, 330ML oval, 370ML, 550ML oval, 580ML, 720ML, 1062ML and 1700ML. Most sizes are packed 12 jars to a carton, while 1062ML and 1700ML are packed 6 to a carton. Glass is used where the product is meant to be seen, which usually means whole or marinated styles.

Carton Counts and Loading

Carton count is fixed per format, so it is the first thing to check when you are calculating what a container will hold. A format at 24 tins per carton and a format at 6 tins per carton behave very differently in a loading plan even when the tin weights look similar.

Mixing Formats in One Container

Because mushroom, fruit and vegetable lines are all produced on one site, a container can carry retail tins, catering tins and jars against a single order. That is normally how a new importer balances slow-moving speciality lines against faster mainstream ones.

When a Container Is Too Much

Prices are quoted on a 1 x 20 foot FCL basis. Where a buyer is not yet at that volume, LCL consolidation is available so the listing can be built without carrying full-container inventory.
