Four Tests That Decide Whether A Wire Harness Is Sound

Continuity And Circuit Verification

This test verifies the physical arrangement sequence of the harness terminals and the circuit topology between them. It catches the fault that costs the most downstream: a loom that is built neatly and wired to the wrong map. A harness that fails here looks perfect on the bench.

Circuit Configuration Verification

Continuity testing verifies whether a complete, uninterrupted current flow path exists within a circuit. It is the difference between a conductor that is present and a conductor that actually conducts through both crimps.

Terminal Retention Strength

This test measures the mechanical reliability of the connection between the terminal and the wire. Crimp quality is invisible once the terminal is inside a housing, so pull off force is the only honest measurement of it. Most field failures that get blamed on cable are crimp failures.

Ingress Protection Rating

This evaluates the dust and water resistance sealing performance of harness connectors. It matters for anything mounted outdoors, under a vehicle or on wash down equipment, and it is the test that decides whether a rectangular housing is adequate or a sealed circular connector is required.

Why The Order Matters

Run the electrical tests before the mechanical ones and you will pass parts that fall apart in service. Run them after sealing and you cannot see which stage introduced the fault. On our line these checks sit at defined points rather than as a single end of line inspection.
