Why Stock Before the Season

Snow equipment fails in the worst week of the year, when every dealer in the market is chasing the same part and shipping from overseas takes longer than the snow lasts. A parts shelf built in autumn costs a few hundred dollars. The same parts sourced in January cost a customer relationship.

Shear Pins and Fasteners

A shear pin is designed to fail so the gearbox does not, which means it will fail. It is the cheapest item on this list and the one most likely to take a machine off a route for a week. Stock them by the box, not by the pair.

Friction Wheels and Friction Discs

On friction drive machines these are the wear surface for the whole transmission. They wear gradually, so the machine gets slower and less able to climb before anyone diagnoses it. A worn friction wheel is usually behind a complaint that the machine has lost power when the engine is fine.

Belts and Cables

Belts perish with age as much as with use, and a machine that sat all summer can snap one in its first hour. Cables stretch, seize and fray at the handle end. Both are quick to fit and impossible to improvise.

Augers Impeller Parts and Tyres

These fail less often but stop the machine completely when they do. If you support an installed base of any size, holding the common auger and drive components for your top selling models is the difference between a repair and a write off.

Engine Service Parts

Spark plugs, air filters and carburettor parts account for most no start calls at the beginning of a season. They are the cheapest possible way to turn an angry phone call into a five minute fix.
