What GSM actually measures

GSM is grams per square metre of finished fabric. It is a density measurement, not a quality score. A 600 GSM towel is denser than a 350 GSM towel, which means more cotton per piece, a deeper pile and a heavier carton. We produce from 250 GSM to 800 GSM, and the useful question is never which is best but which fits the use.

The three bands buyers use

Below 300 GSM the towel is light and quick drying, which suits sports, travel and giveaway ranges. Between 350 and 500 GSM covers most retail bath and beach towels and almost all hotel guest room linen. Above 500 GSM the towel reads as a premium item, and the freight cost per piece begins to matter in the landed cost model.

Drying time is the hidden cost in hospitality

A heavier towel absorbs more but takes longer to dry in a laundry cycle. In a hotel where linen turns daily, that shows up as energy cost and as a larger stock requirement, because more towels are in the wash at any moment. Most hotel guest room towels we ship sit between 400 and 500 GSM for this reason.

GSM and the retail price ceiling

If your shelf price is fixed, GSM is the first lever to adjust, then size, then decoration. Dropping 50 GSM changes the cotton content of every piece in the order, which is why weight is the most effective way to protect a landed cost without changing the look of the range.

Verifying that you got the GSM you ordered

Weight drift is the most common silent defect in towel supply. Ask for the finished weight to be checked against the approved sample before packing, and weigh a piece from the delivery yourself. A towel specified at 450 GSM that arrives at 400 GSM is a 50 gram cost saving per square metre that you paid for.
